Every summer, like clockwork, I was dragged to Puljani. To most, it might look like a quiet, rustic escape in the Croatian hinterland, but to my younger self, it felt like a prison sentence.

While other kids were likely enjoying modern comforts or seaside resorts, I was stuck in the dry, unrelenting heat of the Dalmatian countryside. I remember the deafening sound of the cicadas, the endless dust, and the feeling that time had simply stopped moving. Every stone, every narrow path, and every forced family gathering felt like a chore. Looking back, people tell me it’s a place of “peace and tradition,” but honestly? I hated every single second of it.
